International Baccalaureate Certified School | Cambridge Certified School | Nisai (3 subjects taken) | |
---|---|---|---|
Annual tuition fee | ¥2,000,000 to ¥3,000,000 | ¥1,500,000 to ¥2,500,000 | Approximately ¥950,000 |

The cost is higher for IB-certified schools. In addition, the IB qualification acquisition rate is about 80% overall.
On the other hand, while the cost of Cambridge program-certified schools provided by domestic international schools is lower compared to the IB, it still poses a significant burden on household budgets.
With Nisai, 3 subjects in the A-Level course cost only approximately ¥850,000 per year, roughly half the price of existing international schools. In addition, classes start in the evening, so you can take classes like it is a cram school.

Nisai CEO: Dhruv Patel
As head of the Nisai Group, I have been delivering student-centered education for over 25 years. Education should always be student-centered. As educators, we recognize that it is our role to deliver education that meets individual needs.
We began as a provider of education for pupils who were unable to attend school due to illness, disability, bullying, or family circumstances on the UK compulsory school curriculum. Our teachers and staff are committed to working with pupils to ensure they have strong opportunities and choices in the future.
Nisai is a WASC-accredited school, an organization headquartered in California, USA. It is an educational organization that accredits schools from early childhood to grade 12 (equivalent to senior high school) and universities.
Nisai's courses are accredited by OCR Cambridge, which stands for Oxford, Cambridge, and the Royal Society of Arts. It is accredited by the UK's most prestigious institutions. Nisai was the first in the world to be accredited to offer a fully online Cambridge International education and has a long history of providing high-quality education.
All courses are taught by experienced native English-speaking teachers. If you are not confident in your English at this stage, your teacher will work with you to develop all four skills efficiently according to your current level of English ability.
The more students progress in their studies at Nisai, the earlier they will acquire the ability to use English in a global context. Children who enroll at Nisai are placed in the most suitable class according to their learning ability, and in a learning environment where they study together with students from other countries, they develop an international outlook and ability, and grow up to be global human resources. Of course, they will also be able to demonstrate great strength in English examinations and other certification qualifications. The ability to receive an international education while attending school in Japan, with the feel of a cram school, is one of Nisai's strengths, as it is offered completely online.
Japanese high school students who graduate from Japanese high school are not able to go directly to an overseas university like their overseas counterparts. In order to go to an overseas university, students must improve their English language skills (at least IELTS 6.0) and then attend a foundation course, known as a university preparatory course, established by each university. The current mainstream is to complete this process before going on to university. This takes more time and costs more than for students from other countries.
However, by taking Cambridge International A-Levels and gaining an international qualification, students can prove that they have the same academic ability as those who have completed the Foundation Course and can go directly to a university overseas. Of course, by the end of the Nisai program, you will also have English language skills above IELTS 6.0. Please know that your options are wide and overseas. And you will have the ability to realize your dreams at Nisai and at Nisai University.
We hope that by taking the Cambridge program, which we are proud to offer, you will develop your skills and broaden your options for the future.
At Nisai, we conduct a trial lesson to ensure your satisfaction before enrollment. The process includes:
Do you know about the Cambridge Program?
It may not be widely known within Japan. We will introduce the Cambridge Program briefly here.
There are two major international education programs in the world, namely the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge (A-Level), which have recently gained fame in Japan as well. When looking at schools worldwide, the number of Cambridge schools generally exceeds that of IB schools. However, when examined based on individual countries, the distribution of schools adopting the Cambridge program is quite uneven.
Considering that Cambridge originated in the UK, it's no wonder that it is much more widely used in the UK compared to IB. Conversely, in the USA, while the difference is small, it's the opposite.
The situation varies by country in Asia. While there are more IB schools than Cambridge schools in Japan and Hong Kong, the number of Cambridge schools exceeds that of IB in China, Thailand, Malaysia, and India.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program covers a broader range of subjects, allowing students to explore knowledge in various areas, although coping with the volume can be challenging. On the other hand, the Cambridge program involves selecting 3-4 subjects and acquiring specialized knowledge over time. For students, the Cambridge program is considered more flexible compared to IB, as there are no compulsory subjects, allowing science-oriented students to focus on science subjects and arts-oriented students to do the same with arts subjects.
University admissions from international schools can be broadly categorized into two types:
Most international schools do not fall under the educational facilities listed in Article 1 of Japan's School Education Law (including Japanese kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools). Therefore, instead of certification from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), students need international accreditation to be recognized for admission by schools in Japan and around the world.
When international school students take university entrance exams, most aim for the September exam slot. However, since many courses at Japanese universities start in April, some students also take exams in the April slot.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology recognizes students holding Cambridge International A-Level qualifications as having university entrance qualifications. Please also refer to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Q&A (see Q5 & Q6 regarding Cambridge).
Additionally, there are universities offering programs conducted in English that allow direct application using A-Level grades. High school students attending Nisai can take AS & A-Level courses while attending Japanese schools, enabling them to obtain both Japanese and foreign graduation qualifications (Double Diploma), greatly expanding their university options worldwide.
The Cambridge International database provides detailed information on the acceptance status of Cambridge International qualifications at universities worldwide.
United Kingdom
Cambridge International AS & A Levels are equivalent to those taken by UK students, and admission to UK universities is recognized in the same way as UK A-Levels. In most universities, having at least three A-level qualifications is a requirement for admission. Furthermore, specific grades in certain subjects are often required for many courses.
United States
All universities across the USA, including Ivy League universities, welcome students with Cambridge qualifications. While most universities generally require a minimum of AS or A-Level for admission, some accept Cambridge IGCSE as meeting admission requirements. Some educational institutions and qualification assessment evaluators may consider having five Cambridge IGCSE qualifications with passes at grade C or above equivalent to a high school diploma.
Canada
All universities throughout Canada welcome students with Cambridge qualifications. If you have at least four AS-Level qualifications and/or at least two A-Level qualifications, you are eligible to apply to Canadian universities. For more competitive courses, additional qualifications with higher grades may be required. Universities may accept Cambridge IGCSE to meet admission requirements. Additionally, credits obtained in the upper grades may be recognized as university credits.
Singapore
Singapore continues to be an important destination for higher education, especially for students in the Asia-Pacific region. Cambridge qualifications are widely accepted in Singapore.
Australia
Universities across Australia welcome students from Cambridge. Cambridge International A-Levels are widely accepted for direct entry into undergraduate programs.
Japanese universities typically assess applicants based on their scores on standardized tests (such as the National Center Test for University Admissions) and the university's own entrance exams.
However, overseas universities conduct admissions evaluations by considering a combination of factors including English proficiency, extracurricular activities, essays, academic performance (including international qualifications like A-Levels), and high school grades. This holistic approach to admissions is a significant characteristic of universities abroad.
In other words, applicants are evaluated from the perspective of whether they would be suitable for the university, considering their high school experiences and endeavors. This differs greatly from the emphasis placed on test results in Japanese university entrance exams. Consequently, You will be put to the test as an individual.
Your options are open to the world. Consider studying at Nisai to broaden your horizons and gain access to more opportunities. It's undeniable that the learning experience at Nisai will be a significant asset even in your future career.
※Cambridge International AS & A Levels are taken annually by 175,000 students from 125 countries. Each learning program follows the British curriculum and is designed to prepare students for entry into foreign universities (equivalent to the first year of university study). A-Level qualifications are internationally recognized and serve as proof of academic ability required for admission to overseas universities. Holding A-Level qualifications expands options for attending foreign universities and greatly enhances prospects in the job market.
The A-Level (Advanced Level) program is a two-year program designed for students aged 16 to 19 (high school students) before entering university. Completion of the AS Level program requires one year of study, while completion of the A-Level program requires a total of two years, including the AS program. Cambridge International AS & A-Levels are recognized as passports to education, university, and employment.
In Japan, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology recognizes A-Level qualifications as eligibility for university entrance examinations. Currently, there are still few universities in Japan that offer preferential treatment to students with these qualifications. However, having A-Levels allows for challenging exams that capitalize on global English proficiency, serving as a significant advantage. It also opens up opportunities to pursue English-language degrees. Stepping outside Japan, Cambridge International A-Levels are highly valued by universities and companies worldwide, serving as a passport to global success.
To prepare for desired university admissions, students select subjects such as English, literature, mathematics, and economics, and study the curriculum over two years. Upon completing the first year's AS Level program, students take the AS international exams, followed by the A-Level international exams upon completion of the second-year A-Level program.
For admission to overseas universities, students must study and take exams in at least three subjects. The required subjects vary depending on the university and field of study. Students are expected to gather information relevant to their desired path and take the necessary subjects accordingly, marking the beginning of their journey toward overseas university admission.(For more information, refer to the Cambridge University Search Database in the High School Student Course "Entering Overseas Universities.")
About Overseas University Admissions (University Search Database)
High A-Level grades can directly lead to admission to some of the world's top universities. However, admission criteria for top universities worldwide vary. Some universities assess admissions based on comprehensive factors beyond A-Level grades, including extracurricular activities and essays. Therefore, it's crucial to thoroughly research information about the desired university and prepare accordingly for its admission criteria, as the standards vary greatly by country, university, and faculty.
